Abstract

Oxidation behavior of 2D C/SiC composites coated with multi-layer SiC/Si-B-C/SiC coatings had been investigated under wet oxygen atmosphere for 50 h. The multi-layer SiC/Si-B-C/SiC coatings showed excellent oxidation protection at all temperatures due to the effective crack sealing of borosilicate glass. Especially, the coated samples also had a high residual strength retention ratio (106.7%) and a low weight loss (0.058%) after oxidation at 1000 °C for 50 h. However, the increasing water partial pressure could improve the volatilization of borosilicate glass and weaken the sealing function of the glass at some extent when the oxidation temperature was above 1200 °C.
