The research on the mechanism and prevention of solid particle erosion for titanium alloy

摘要

The effects of material intrinsic factors & environmental factor i. e., impingement angle, abrasive particle character and entrance speed on solid particle erosion(SPE) resistance of Ti6Al4V ELI titanium alloy were evaluated. The failure mechanisms of SPE on titanium treated by shot peening & multi-arc ion plating were investigated to provide guide to new ways of controlling SPE damage of blade materials. The results indicate that: The surface hardness and micro-cutting properties can be improved notably for Ti-6Al-4V ELI alloy with ZrN homogeneous films, Zr/ZrN multilayer films, ZrN gradient films by multi-arc ion plating, the SPE resistance at impact angle of 30° and sliding wear resistance of the alloy are both improved. The SPE resistance at high impact angle of 90°. can be enhanced obviously for the alloy with gradient films because of its high surface bearing capacity, continuous stress distribution both at the inner films and at the interfaces. The SPE resistance at high impact angle of homogeneous ZrN film, multilayer ZrN film is inferior to the matrix alloy. The SPE resistance of Ti6Al4V ELI alloy can't be improved abraptly only by shot peening process, but the SPE resistance can be improved obviously for the alloy treated by shot peening plus polishing in order to reduce the surface roughness.
