Study on the surface modification and the adhesion performance of Polytetrafluoroethylene

摘要

The surface of Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) sheet is pretreated using Argon plasma technique, and then the surface is modified by thermal-induced graft polymerization of glycidyl-methacrylate (GMA). The effects of different plasma treatment conditions and different monomer volume fraction of GMA on the bonding strength between PTFE and steel and the water contact angle of grafted PTFE are studied. Meantime, the grafted PTFE is characterized by means of X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS). The results show that GMA is successfully grafted onto the surface of PTFE, and the bonding strength between the grafted PTFE and steel is increased from 24.6 N·cm-2 to 284.6 N·cm-2 when the plasma treatment time is 5 min, the power is 50 W, the pressure is 50 Pa and the grafted monomer volume fraction of GMA is 20%.
