Study on friction and wear properties of metallic fiber reinforced PTFE based composite

摘要

The friction and wear properties of metallic fiber reinforced PTFE based composite against steel are evaluated with a reciprocating friction tester. Scanning electron microscopy is used to study worn surfaces. It is shown that the reinforcement effect of steel fiber is better than that of copper fiber, while the reinforcement effect of hybrid fiber is better than that of either steel fiber or copper fiber. Enhancing the supporting load of fiber and reducing the surface fracture are most important for improving the wear resistance of the composite.
