Real-Time Modeling and Simulation of Electric Vehicle Battery Charger on FPGA

摘要

With the development of the electric vehicles (EV), the fast and high-efficiency battery chargers have attracted more and more attention in both industrial and academic fields. However, the real-time simulation of the EV charger can be challenging mainly due to the high switching frequency of the employed DC-DC resonant converter. The accurate simulation of fast switching converters requires ultra-low time-step which imposes strict time constraint to the real-time solver. In this paper, a real-time model of the EV battery charger is developed based on the effective topology partitioning technique. Therefore, the parallel modeling structure is realized which can make use of the parallelism of the FPGA device to reduce the computation latency. After the implementation on FPGA, the developed model can be simulated with 15 ns real-time time-step. The accuracy of the developed model is validated by the SimPowerSystem model in Matlab/Simulink, and the application values are proved by the hardware-in-the-loop real-time simulation.
