Lightweight perforated horn antenna enabled by 3-D metal-direct-printing

摘要

Waveguide structures are always known for being bulky and heavy. The objective of this paper is to investigate the weight-reduction technique of the waveguide structures while maintaining their electrical properties and mechanical fabricability; and the outcome is a lightweight perforated X-band horn. The overall weight-reduction is realized by a metal-sheet perforation technique via a 3-D metal-direct-printing technology. Preliminary results show that around two thirds of weight can be reduced without affecting the electrical performance.
