N2 - The processing map is an effective tool for the optimization of materials workability, product property control and defect avoidance. The processing map is constructed by a superimposition of the efficiency of the power dissipation and the instability maps, and can be divided into safe domain and unsafe domain. The development of Raj map and the processing map based on Dynamic Material Model (DDM) are reviewed in this paper. The theory of DDM is introduced first, and then a comparison of different instability criteria are made to help in achieving a greater degree of the microstructural control during processing. Different deformation mechanisms including dynamic recrystallization, superplastic deformation, wedge cracking, formation of adiabatic shear bands and globulazation of lamella alpha are explained by the processing map based on DDM.
