Cascade ensemble-RBF-based optimization algorithm for aero-engine transient control schedule design optimization

The aero-engine is the power system and the most important part of the aircraft. The transient performance of aero-engine plays an essential role in the maneuverability of aircraft. An optimal transient control schedule can improve the transient performance subjected to each constraint. However, the design optimization of the aero-engine transient control schedule is a highly constrained and nonlinear optimization problem. Therefore, it is extremely challenging to design an optimal aero-engine transient control schedule. In this paper, a new mathematical optimization formulation of the aero-engine transient control schedule design problem is proposed to reduce the optimization difficulty. Meanwhile, the optimization algorithm assisted by the ensemble radial basis function (RBF) model is used to solve the optimization problem. Moreover, a cascade optimization strategy is proposed to improve the optimization performance. An optimization example of a mix-flow turbofan transient control schedule design is used to prove that the proposed algorithm can find the global optimal solution region, and the proposed cascade optimization strategy can further improve the solution accuracy.
