A high-performance mettalic aerogel based aluminum-hydrogen peroxide fuel cell

摘要

Batteries with high energy densities and high power densities are desired by all mobile platforms, especially for unmanned aerial vehicles. One of a key condition for advancing battery systems is a highly efficient conversion of energy. Fuel cells, such as electrochemical devices, are capable of directly converting of chemical energy accumulated in fuel into electrical energy. The efficient energy conversion system of fuel cells makes it a suitable alternative for current power systems. In this paper, we report a facile aluminum-hydrogen peroxide (Al-H2O2) fuel cell using ultra-light silver nanowire (Ag NW) aerogel as the cathode. Ag NW aerogel is a type of hierarchically porous silver foam possessing high specific area and porosity, which are beneficial for the electrochemical energy storage and conversion system in a more efficient way. The Al-H2O2 fuel cell equipped with Ag NW aerogel as cathode is fabricated, and delivers a 46.8-folds higher power density than commercial Ag-rod cathode.
