Abstract
The toughening of epoxy resin by the modification with acrylate liquid rubber containing pendant epoxy groups was investigated. The results show that the addition of 5 phr of liquid rubber leads to 63% increase and 350% increase in impact strength and fracture toughness GIC respectively. At the mean time, the tensile strength, tensile modulus, flexural strength and glass transition temperatures of modified epoxy resin are less than those of the parent epoxy resin. The SEM analysis of the fracture surfaces indicates that the modified epoxy system exhibits two-phase morphology with rubber sphericity particles dispersed in matrixes.
