Abstract

The thermophysical properties of materials not only have important theoretical significance for research, but they also play an important role in engineering technology. Taking the Ti55, Ti55/3.5 vol %TiBw, and Ti55/7 vol %TiBw composites as the experimental materials, the thermal expansion coefficient, density, elastic modulus, shear modulus, Poisson's ratio, specific heat, thermal diffusivity and thermal conductivity at high temperature were measured or calculated. The experimental results revealed the influence of TiB whisker (TiBw) on the thermophysical properties of the material. The high TiBw content contributed to increase the density, elastic modulus, and shear modulus of the composites, and the models for elastic modulus and shear modulus showed good agreement with the experimental data. Moreover, although there were small differences in specific heat, thermal diffusivity, and thermal conductivity between the three materials, the specific heat, thermal diffusivity, and thermal conductivity of the composites were larger for a temperature below 700 °C. Additionally, TiBw had a negative effect on Poisson's ratio and the thermal expansion coefficient of the composites, while the influence of TiBw content on the thermal expansion coefficient of the composites gradually decreased with increasing temperature.
