Abstract
Second phase formation in the burn resistant titanium alloy Ti40(Ti-25V-15Cr-0. 2Si) and their effects on properties have been studied. The higher the solution temperature, the higher the concention of second phases . No second phases form if the solution temperature is below 850°C, while rod-like α and some Ti5Si3 phases form above 850°C, The α and Ti5Si3 phases precipitate from Ti40 after solution heat treatment at 910°C followed by aging at 600°C, while only Ti5Si3 phases precipitate during heat treatment at 860°C followed by aging at 600°C. Various shapes of a and Ti5Si3 precipitates form in Ti40 after exposure at 540°C for 100 h, decreasing its thermal stability, then influence on properties at RT is not obvious.
