Abstract

A new Phase-detecting device which can be used in real solid rocket motor (SRM) working environment was designed. By connecting this device up to an ablation experiment SRM, the impacted morphology of carbon layer surface was obtained and observed by SEM. Based on the demolishing pattern of the carbon layer surface, the real phase state of the carbon layer surface during SRM operation was also analyzed. The forming cause of this phase state and the mechanical capability of EPDM in real SRM environment were discussed briefly. Studies show that this new Phase-detecting device is a powerful tool for the research on insulator's ablation theory and experiment, and the experimental results may provide a convictive evidence for ablation modeling.
