Abstract
Microcapsules were made from thermosetting phenolic resin and then heated to be hollow. Under the protection of N2, the microcapsules are carbonized at 900-1100°C and closed-cell microspheres of carbon structure result. When the carbon microspheres are graphitized under the protection of Ar at 2100-2600°C, closed-cell carbon microspheric form of graphitic structure is produced. The new foam has a thermal coefficient of around 5 W/m · K and were an ideal heat-resistant foam material.
