Abstract

The interfaces of SiC/Ti40 and SiC/Ti-6-4 composites after various heat treatments were studied. The results indicate the presence of TiC precipitates among adjacent fibers in the SiC/Ti40 composite. This precipitate disappears after heat treatment at 1000°C. The interfacial thickness increases with the heat treatment temperature and time. The reaction product at the interfaces of SCS-6 SiC/Ti40 and SiC/Ti-6-4 is Ti5Si3.
