SSL-DDS: Integrating SSL Encryption into DDS Communication Framework for UAV Security

Abstract

The rapid advancement of unmanned systems technology has led to significant improvements in drone applications, emphasizing the urgent need for advanced communication security solutions. This paper introduces SSL-DDS, a novel UAV security method that integrates SSL encryption negotiation into the DDS framework. This innovative approach effectively addresses key challenges in authentication, key exchange, and encryption. By enabling flexible selection of encryption suites, SSL-DDS enhances compatibility across various UAV models and system architectures. It supports efficient multi-brand UAV authentication and ensures secure communication by selecting the most suitable encryption algorithms based on specific system configurations. This method provides effective and lightweight security solutions, optimizing performance for diverse hardware setups. Designed to maintain high security and reliable performance, SSL-DDS offers a comprehensive solution for modern UAV communication security, even in resource-constrained environments.
