Abstract
The rotation symmetry, microstructure and solidification character of Al 72Ni 12Co 16 quasicrystal alloy were studied by the conventional casting method and SEM, XRD, DTA and TEM analysis. The results indicate that under the conventional casting condition, the Al 72Ni 12Co 16 alloy exhibits a single and porosity microstructure. During the solidification, the quasicrystal phase precipitates directly from the liquid. The Al 72Ni 12Co 16 decagonal quasicrystal phase is a nearly congruent compound where the liquidus and peritectic-reaction lines are very close.
