Abstract

Zn1-xMgxO (x≤0.15) powders were obtained by annealing their precursors, which were prepared in water by the simple sol-gel method. The structure of powders was characterized by X-ray diffraction. XRD shows that the maximum doping content of magnesium is 15% (mol). Optical absorption measurements of the colloid of ZnO/Zn1-xMgxO powders were carried out by UV-Vis spectra. Doping Mg can increase the ultraviolet transmissivity of the ZnO powder. The band-gap of ZnO is also increased from 3.31 eV to 3.65 eV by doping 15% MgO content.
