Abstract

Si-SiC oxidation protective coating for C/C composites has been produced by the pack cementation technique. The microstructures, element distribution and phase composition of the as-received coating were analyzed by SEM, EDS and XRD. It was found that the coating characterized by excellent anti-oxidation and thermal shock resistance properties on the surface of C/C composites during exposure to an oxidizing atmosphere at 1873 K, could protect C/C composites from oxidation for 128 h. The weight loss percent of the Si-SiC coating coated sample was 4.03% after 152 h oxidation in air at 1873 K. The failure of the coating is due to the formation of bubble holes on the coating surface.
