Abstract

The oxidation resistance for carbon fiber reinforced carbon (C/C) composites has been one of the popular research topics in materials field. Up to now, silicon-based ceramics are the most thoroughly studied materials as the oxidation protective coatings for C/C composites. The recent achievement of high temperature oxidation protective silicon-based ceramic coatings of C/C composites at home and abroad is reviewed. The preparation technologies and improvements of high temperature oxidation protective silicon-based ceramic coatings of C/C composites are introduced. The oxidation mechanisms of silicon-based ceramic coatings in high temperature air and in combustion environment are discussed. According to the development of environmental barrier coatings of silicon-based non-oxidation ceramics (SiC, Si3N4, etc.), the research aspect of C/C composites with oxidation resistance coatings in complex environment is outlined.
