Abstract

A method of sample size determination for reliability test design of aeronautical mechanical products is presented. The method is used to determine the minimum sample size required for estimation of safe life (percentile life) with a given precision index, reliability (probability of survival) and confidence level when the data of fatigue life follows Weibull distribution. The relationship among sample size, estimation precision index, confidence level and life distribution parameters is derived based on Weibull distribution. The proposed method proves to be rational and applicable by some calculation examples. Besides practical experiences, the method will help engineers make a reasonable decision when they need to determine the sample size of tests.
