Abstract
A dynamic optimization method to determine the optimal dynamic sensor logic structure (or decision criteria) of safety monitoring system is proposed, which models the entire system behavior composed of the system (or equipment) and its safety monitoring system using dynamic Bayesian networks (DBN), minimizes the total expected loss caused by two types of the safety monitoring system failure: A failed-dangerous (FD) failure and a failed-safe (FS) failure. An illustrative example of a three-sensor system shows the characteristics and merits of the proposed method.
