Abstract

Properties, preparation and applications of carbon/carbon composites have been extensively reviewed. Chemical vapor infiltration of carbon fiber performs is the most important process for the production of high-quality carbon fiber reinforced carbon composites. Chemical vapor infiltration of pyrocarbon was analysed with respect to chemistry and kinetics of complex homogeneous gas phase reactions of the precursor hydrocarbons, complex heterogeneous surface reactions and pore diffusion phenomena in the porous substrate. The present study situation of the mechanism for carbon/carbon composites was introduced. A model correlating the mechanism of pyrolytic carbon formation with carbon texture for the CVI process and preparation condition was presented, namely the Graphene composing-Absorption-Development model.
