Abstract

Boron has a great advantage as a high-energy component of solid propellant. However, the combustion process of boron particle is complex due to the inhibition of oxide layer covering on the surface. Basic phenomena and process of boron combustion were described, and the essence of "two stage combustion" phenomena was discussed. The research on "semi-empirical model" which was represented by King model and L-W model were reviewed. The modeling mechanism of the two models was compared. The basic mechanism and contents of L-W model were explained. The research progress and basic principle of "chemical mechanism model" were introduced. Advantages and disadvantages of the two different kinds of models were analyzed and compared.
