Abstract

We report an investigation on the evolution of annealing twins as a function of annealing time upon recrystallization in rapidly solidified nickel based alloys without man-made plastic deformation. The annealing twin density in the recrystallized domain increased during recrystallization. With these directly observed experimental results, a new processing technology, i.e. rapid solidification plus quenching and annealing, can be realized to improve and enrich the existing recrystallization processing technologies and processing approaches to manipulate the twin boundary fraction.
