Abstract

Unsaturated polyester (UP) was modified by organic rectorite (OREC), the trinary OREC modified-UP/FIBRES (OREC/UP/F) composites were prepared and the mechanical properties of OREC/UP/F were measured, the resistance to medium, the anti- ultraviolet aging and the anti- heat oxygen aging were investigated, the microstructure of trinary composites was analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) to investigate the reinforcing mechanism of composites. The results indicate that the adding of OREC can improve the comprehensive properties with the properties of trinary composites optimum when the adding of OREC is 2%. The flexural strength is increased by 14.0%, the modulus of flexural elasticity, 22.4%, the interlaminar shear strength, 8.2%, the resistance to heat and wetting, the anti-alkali properties, the anti-ultraviolet ageing and the anti-heat oxygen ageing were also enhanced for the composites containing OREC.
