Abstract

Solidification transport process has a direct effect on the final microstructures and properties of ingots. As a kind of modeling method, the volume-average method can couple the transport phenomena during solidification on macroscopic scales with microscopic scales to realize the bilateral coupling micro-macro. In recent years, the volume average method has been widely used in numerical simulation of solidification transport process and greatly promotes the research on the multi-scale coupling simulation of solidification process. In this paper, we briefly reviewed the main idea of volume average method, and the development and applications of the volume average method models. The existing problems and future research directions are also discussed.
