Abstract

Al/70vol%Sip composites were fabricated successfully by pressureless infiltration. spontaneous infiltration thermodynamics and kinetics in Al-Si system were analyzed. Aluminum alloy melt infiltrates completely into Si particles porous perform under the capillary pressure, and there was a parabola relationship between infiltration depth and infiltration time. The dissolution of Sip perform could be restrained availably when infiltrated with an Al alloys containing saturated Si content. The observed results of composites microstructure show that the surface of Si particles happens passivation, and Si particles fuse and connect one another into a continuous three-dimensional meshwork.
