Abstract

The aluminide coating was prepared on Inconel 783 bolts by pack cementation for ultra-supercritical steam turbine application. The oxidation behavior of the coating and 783 alloy at 650–800 °C for 3850 h was investigated including temperature dependence of oxidation kinetics and composition of oxide scales. Results show that bare 783 alloy is unable to grow external alumina below 750 °C due to its insufficient Al content and thus shows a bell-shaped oxidation kinetics dependent on temperature. However, 2.9 µm aluminide coating is sufficient for protection of In 783 bolts.
