Abstract

Expressions for the roughening transition of solid/liquid interface in multicomponent alloys are developed and a related thermodynamic model of roughening transition is proposed. The alloying and configurational entropy effects on the interface structure are discussed based on the Gibbs free energy of roughening transition. The surface roughness in alloys depends on the Gibbs free energy of phase transition and the partition coefficient.
