Abstract

This paper presents three Sol-Gel processes which synthesize BAS at low cost and require relatively simple procedure. As high-cost alkoxides are replaced with commercially available cheap organic salts and/or aqueous sol, the costs of Sol-Gel processes A, B and C are lowered by as much as 50%, 95%, and 90% respectively as compared with previous alkoxide Sol-Gel processes. The procedures are made stable and simple through the control of the pH values of the sols or the selection of the starting materials. The behavior of BAS gels was investigated with XRD. The gels synthesized with processes A and C are amorphous, and the gels synthesized with process B contain crystals; and all the gels can be transformed into crystal celsian by heat treatment above 1200°C.
