Abstract

Short cracks cannot be inspected directly by latest industrial computed tomography (ICT), for their dimensional steps from several to several tens μm, whose is smaller than the finest ICT's resolution. One approach to simulate short cracks was designed using constructive solid geometry (CSG) model based on CT simulator system. Those short cracks whose scale was several times bigger than actual ones were simulated and their CT projections were acquired to meet the projection precision. Then pixel combination technique was proposed to scale down these projections to actual size. As a result, simulation projections of short collective cracks were acquired indirectly. Based on the research, the ICT reconstruction and fatigue life in the next step could be continued. Experiments prove that CT projections of short collective cracks which show much closer to the real ones can be achieved.
