Abstract
Because general simplified component-level engine start models were based on sub-idle steady-state operating line relationships, these models are not capable of simulating startup well for different engine starting operations. A one-dimensional mathematical model based on component matching principles was developed for simulating engine startup. A small turbofan engine starting operation as an example was simulated by using this model. The results show that this model captures a small pressure overshoot prior to stabilizing and combustor blowout in initial accelerating phase.
