Abstract

The borosilicate glass coating for oxidation protection of C/SiC brake materials was prepared by sol-gel method. The formation process from sol to glass was investigated by FTIR, XRD and TG-DSC, and the capabilities of oxidation resistance and thermal shock resistance were analyzed. The results show that the borosilicate glass coating was uniform and dense, moreover it can be closely boned with the composite substrates. At 800°C, the borosilicate glass coating has excellent capabilities of oxidation resistance and thermal shock resistance, high-temperature stability as well as superior sea water corrosion resistance. After the coating samples were oxidized for 10h at 800°C, weight loss ratio of the samples with and without sea water immersion was about 2.36% and 0.33% respectively, After thermal shock for 50 times (10h), the coating remained undamaged, and the weight loss was about 9.79%.
