Abstract
Laser surface remelting experiments have been performed on a Zn-2.7wt.%Cu hyperperitectic alloy. The average lamellar spacing and the corresponding growth rate are quantitatively analyzed, and the results are in good agreement with the prediction of the Jackson-Hunt eutectic model. It implies that lamellar structures in peritectic alloys have a similar growth mechanism to those of eutectic alloys.
