Iterative method for solving the static governing equations of interval finite element method

Abstract

When the uncertainties of structural parameters can be bounded in an interval, the interval finite element method can be established via the combination of interval analysis and the traditional finite element method (FEM). One of its most important problems is the solving of the governing equations. According to the arithmetic rules of interval variables, an iterative method for solving the static governing equations of the interval FEM of structures was presented. In this method, the solving of the characteristic parameters of displacement field was transformed into an iterative process. The calculated results of a numerical example show that the presented method is reliable and easy to implement.
