Abstract

An analytic method of an airfoil flutter system with nonlinear stiffness in transonic air flow is presented. Unsteady aerodynamic forces are governed by Navier-Stokes equations. The time histories of the structure responses of the airfoil are solved by coupling with the Navier-Stokes equations and flutter equations. The nonlinear stiffness including gap and cubic type stiffness is investigated. Because there are both structural and aerodynamic nonlinear items in the flutter system, the dynamic behavior of the system is very complicated.
