Abstract
SiO2-matrix composites reinforced with 5.0, 7.5 and 10 wt% TiC nanowires were prepared by a simple blending, cold-pressing and sintering. Their dielectric properties and microwave attenuation performances were evaluated at frequencies of 8.2-12.4 GHz (X-band). The dielectric constants raised gradually with increasing TiC nanowires contents in the composites. Meanwhile, the high-temperature microwave absorbing abilities of 7.5 wt% loaded composite were investigated in the temperature range from 25 to 300 °C. Thereafter, an attenuation mechanism was also proposed. The calculated losses suggested that the TiC nanowires/SiO2 composite will be a good candidate as microwave absorbing materials in high-temperature environment.
