Abstract

To optimize the process parameters of equal channel angular extrusion (ECAE), a series of ECAE experiments has been done to investigate the effects of process parameters of ECAE on the properties of Mg-6Al. The results show that the mechanical properties of Mg-6Al are improved greatly after being extruded. When the Mg-6Al alloy was processed by ECAE from 1 pass to 4 passes, the mechanical properties were increased evidently and the microstructure was refined well. When the extrusion temperature was increased from 260°C to 300°C, the mechanical properties were increased at first and then decreased. The best mechanical properties of tensile strength of 308.2 MPa and elongation of 30.6% could be obtained under such experimental conditions: test route B, 4 extrusion passes and extrusion temperature of 300°C.
