Abstract

The YBCO thick films with c-axis preferred orientation were prepared by spin and printing processes on Ni substrates (including cold rolling Ni, cube textured Ni, and cube textured Ni + self-oxidedNiO). The results show that the chrysanthemum (or spherulite) and polygon morphology grains dominate the microstructure of YBCO films. The chrysanthemum size is about 0.2-0.5 mm range, some reaches 1 mm, and polygon grains normally are placed in the center of the chrysanthemum grains. No chrysanthemum grains appear in the thick films prepared on the substrate with Ag or YBCO intermediate layers.
