Abstract
The friction and wear properties of Al2024 sliding against 45 carbon steel under the lubrication of dimer acid, alcohol and monoester or the combination of dimer acid and sorbitan were investigated by using a RFT-III reciprocating friction and wear tester. The worn surface of Al2024 was examined by FT-IR equipped with a microscope. The results show that (1) the formation of a polymer film on the Al2024 worn surface can reduce the friction coefficient and surface roughness of Al2024, hence reduce its wear-off rate as compared with the case of using paraffin oil as lubricant; (2) the FT-IR analysis confirms the formation of friction polymer on the worn Al2024 aluminum alloy surface from the polymerizable additives.
