Abstract

Based on the two-powder process, the relationship between the heat treatment conditions and the inhomogeneity in the core microstructure and the 2223 phase content was investigated upon sintering the Bi-2223 long tapes. Several methods were proposed to improve the critical current homogeneity of long tapes. Using the process, a 50 metres long tape with highly current uniformity was fabricated. The Ic values is 60A (Jc∼3.5×104A/cm2, 77K, Self-field) for this tape and the its values deviation is less than 8% along the tape length.
