Abstract

The paper uses a simple method to measure fast crack propagation in 30CrMnSiA and determine some parameters such as K//I//Q - initiation fracture toughness of the blunt crack tip, aa - arrest length, K//I//a - static crack arrest toughness and V - speed of crack propagation. It is found that the speed and the length of crack propagation depend not only on K//I//c but also on the initiation condition at the crack tip. The K//I//Q is greater than K//I//c and the K//I//a is lower than K//I//c. The dynamic fracture properties of this material are analyzed and discussed.
