Abstract
The effects of long chain amines on the antiwear characteristics of tributyl phosphate were evaluated using a four-ball machine. The interaction between tributyl phosphate and amines was investigated by IR, 31P NMR and differential thermal analysis. It was found that the long chain amines reduced the antiwear properties of tributyl phosphate in the order of primary > secondary > tertiary amines. The preferential adsorption of long chain amines on the surface seems the cause the reduction of antiwear properties of tributyl phosphate.
