Abstract

The cold spray process usually involves preheating particle and increasing particle impact velocity to improve the deposition efficiency. In the present study, the effect of particle and substrate preheating on the deformation behavior of cold sprayed particle was investigated using the Eulerian formulation available in software of ABAQUS/Explicit with typical copper material. Preheating ways were used by realizing different temperatures on the substrate, particle and both. Calculated results show that different preheating ways result in different deformation patterns, the flattening ratio and compression ratio of Cu particle and the maximum equivalent plastic strain. Preheating whole model, substrate and particle shows a coordinated deformation pattern, penetration way and spreading way, respectively.
