Abstract

DSC analysis of Pb-Bi peritectic alloys during solidification process was carried out to determine the solidus temperatures, liquidus temperature and temperatures of primary phase precipitation and peritectic reaction by differential scanning calorimetry. Meanwhile, nucleation under-cooling rate and volumetric fraction of primary a phase as well as latent heating of primary a phase and peritectic ß phase in the pertictic alloys at varied cooling rates were presented based on analyses of DSC thermograms and solidification structure. The results reveal that with increasing in alloy composition and cooling rate, nucleation under-cooling rate of primary a phase is increased while its volumetric fraction and latent heating are decreased with increasing in alloy composition and increased with increasing in cooling rate. However, the volumetric fraction and latent heating of the peritectic ß phase are increased with increasing in alloy composition and decreased with increasing in cooling rate.
