Abstract

Daniella Grigori et al proposed the anticipation idea to enhance flexibility of workflow execution4. We propose deepening their idea to enhance flexibility further. We deepen Ref 4's idea in that we propose starting the succeeding activity before the end of the preceding activity and we still manage to keep these two activities well coordinated. In the full paper we explain our proposed deepening in much detail; here we give only a briefing. In order to solve the coordination problem of iterative process in product design workflow, we propose a method of data sharing, which allows the preceding activity to share its intermediate results (IRs) with the succeeding activity and vice versa; so the succeeding activity can use the IRs of the preceding activity to start earlier, and the preceding activity can use the IRs of the succeeding activity as feedback to make some modification quickly. Our proposed deepening can improve parallel execution of activities and realize the coordination of activities in the iterative process.
