Abstract
The corrosion behavior of silicon oxynitride bonding silicon carbide (Si2 N2 O/SiC) composite in molten pure magnesium and AZ91 magnesium alloy was investigated. The microstructure and component for the surface layer were characterized by SEM, EDS and XRD. The experimental results showed that there were reactions between liquid metals and SiO2 on the surface of the composite. After the SiO2 was used up and reaction products formed compact protective layers, the Si2 N2 O/SiC composite exhibited good resistance to corrosion of liquid magnesium and AZ91 magnesium alloy.
