Computational investigation of drag reduction devices on blunt trailing edge airfoils

Abstract

Computational simulations were introduced to analyze FB-4000-1000, FB-4000-2000 blunt trailing edge airfoils and the drag reduction method with trailing edge splitters. Three kinds of splitters were study. The one which the splitter was installed in the middle of trailing edge step, made about 35% drag reduction with a bit of lift decrease at small and middling attack angle; while at high attack angle it provided about 20% reduction of the drag.
