Abstract
A compact design of non-uniform metasurface for patch antenna main beam steering is presented in this paper. The proposed design is realized using printed circuit board technology. By adding the non-uniform meta-surface to a patch antenna, the main-beam direction of the patch antenna can be steered by an angle up to 30° from the boresight direction. The metasurface together with the patch antenna here is called meta-surfaced antenna, which has a very compact structure since there is no air gap between the metasurface and the patch antenna. The meta-surfaced antenna is studied and designed to operate around 2.45GHz. To verify the results of simulation, the meta-surfaced antenna is fabricated and measured. Measured results show that the antenna has an operating bandwidth from 2.35-2.5GHz and peak realized gain of 7.1dBi.
